Tromboranga Salsa Orchestra Returns to Taipei for “Vivela” Tour

Date:

The Tromboranga Salsa Orchestra will perform in Taipei on Sunday, Sept. 28, as part of its international “Vivela” tour. The nine-member ensemble promises a high-energy show at HanaSpace Taipei.

The Tromboranga Salsa Orchestra represents a new generation of Latin bands dedicated to “salsa dura.” This style emphasizes strong trombones, piano, bass, and percussion. Unlike salsa romantica, the focus remains on instrumental energy rather than vocals.

Salsa dura originated in 1970s New York City. Fania Records popularized it, signing legendary musicians like Willie Colon and Johnny Pacheco. The genre features highly orchestrated arrangements, leaving space for improvisation and creative interplay.

Tromboranga’s Taipei performance is part of a larger “Vivela” itinerary that includes stops in Japan. The band’s shows are known for energetic solos, lively percussion, and tempo shifts that invite expressive dancing. Dancers often favor this jazz-influenced 1970s style over softer salsa romantica.

The ensemble is led by Joaquin Arteaga, who composes and arranges much of the band’s repertoire. Cuban vocalist Diego Coppinger, a former star of Havana’s Tropicana Show, brings powerful stage presence. Colombian pianist Rafa Madagascar incorporates Cali and Colombian salsa traditions into the performance.

The Tromboranga Salsa Orchestra has toured extensively across the U.S., Mexico, and Europe, performing in cities like New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, Amsterdam, London, and Paris. Their songs, including “Agua que va a caer” and “Baila Africa,” are popular in dance competitions and social media challenges.

The group first impressed Taipei audiences in 2016. This return promises a larger, more interactive performance with new material. Concert organizers highlight that fans can expect an unforgettable night of lively music and dance.

Tickets are expected to sell quickly as fans anticipate the energy and rhythm that define the Tromboranga Salsa Orchestra. The performance is part of a continued celebration of salsa dura and Latin music worldwide.
