SCO Summit Expands Regional Cooperation

Date:

The SCO Summit marked the largest gathering in the organisation’s history, signaling a major step in regional cooperation. Leaders from member states met to discuss strategic partnerships and future development. The SCO Summit drew attention for both its scale and its impact on economic and political collaboration.

China’s Ambassador to Mongolia, Shen Minjuan, said the summit has expanded the organisation’s reach and deepened collaboration. She emphasized that the SCO Summit now covers the widest territory and involves the largest population among regional bodies. The meeting reflected the growing influence of the SCO on global governance and regional stability.

During the summit, Chinese President Xi Jinping introduced the Global Governance Initiative. This initiative focuses on five core principles: respecting state sovereignty, adhering to international law, promoting multilateralism, prioritizing people, and emphasizing action-oriented guidance. The initiative complements China’s prior efforts, including the Global Development Initiative, Global Security Initiative, and Global Civilization Initiative.

The SCO Summit also produced eight major outcomes, including the adoption of a ten-year development strategy. Leaders highlighted the need for long-term collaboration across trade, security, and cultural exchange. Ambassador Shen noted that Mongolia’s President Khurelsukh Ukhnaa participated in multiple meetings, including bilateral and trilateral discussions with China and Russia.

Several cooperation agreements were signed during the meetings. Notably, Mongolia and China agreed on protocols for the inspection, quarantine, and veterinary requirements of honey exports. This agreement aims to diversify Mongolia’s agricultural exports while strengthening trade links. Furthermore, the first trilateral summit in three years between Mongolia, China, and Russia highlighted progress in regional cooperation.

Beyond economic matters, the SCO Summit coincided with commemorative events marking the victory in the War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression. President Khurelsukh visited the memorial complex at Janchkhuu Pass, paying tribute to Mongolian and Soviet soldiers. Ambassador Shen emphasized that remembering history reinforces unity and shared responsibility among nations.

Journalists at the briefing asked questions regarding ongoing projects and their future prospects. Experts note that the SCO Summit not only strengthens multilateral ties but also opens new avenues for regional development. Observers expect further collaboration in infrastructure, trade, and security in the coming years.

Overall, the SCO Summit reinforced the organisation’s strategic relevance. By adopting long-term plans and fostering high-level dialogue, member states aim to achieve sustainable regional growth. The event highlighted both the practical and symbolic importance of cooperation in addressing global and regional challenges.
