Taiwan humanitarian aid took a significant step forward as Representative to Poland Jeff Liu signed a memorandum of understanding with Kyiv social services official Tetiana Badylevych. The agreement focuses on supporting vulnerable children in Ukraine and demonstrates Taiwan’s growing role in international humanitarian efforts.
Moreover, the signing took place this week in Poland. The memorandum establishes a program to assist disadvantaged youth in the Kyiv region. It will provide psychological care and essential supplies to children orphaned by the war and to foster families.
In addition, Taiwan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs supported the agreement, which brings together multiple organizations. The Italian humanitarian group WeWorld, the Taiwan Fund for Children and Families, and Kyiv’s City Service for Children and Family Affairs will manage the program.
Furthermore, Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung witnessed the signing alongside WeWorld president Marco Chiesara, TFCF International Development Division head Tsai Ching-min, and Ukrainian lawmakers. Lin highlighted that Taiwan humanitarian aid reflects the island’s long-term support for Ukraine and its commitment to shared democratic values.
Meanwhile, children in Kyiv face harsh conditions. Many study in air raid shelters and must hide whenever sirens sound. These daily disruptions cause psychological trauma and sleep problems. Tetiana Badylevych expressed gratitude to Taiwan and its partners for providing vital resources and mental health support to affected children.
Additionally, Lin emphasized that Taiwan humanitarian aid aligns with the country’s broader diplomatic strategy. Taiwan aims to strengthen partnerships with other democratic nations, including Poland, the Czech Republic, and Estonia. Lin traveled to Poland to deliver a keynote speech at the Warsaw Security Forum on global democratic supply chains.
As a result, the new initiative also enhances Taiwan’s international profile. As Taiwan faces increasing geopolitical pressure, it seeks to deepen ties with countries that share democratic values. By supporting Ukraine’s children, Taiwan sends a message of solidarity and responsibility on the global stage.
Looking ahead, officials expect closer cooperation between Taiwan and European humanitarian networks. Ultimately, the MOU marks not just a diplomatic gesture but a sustained effort to help communities in crisis. Taiwan continues to demonstrate that humanitarian action is a cornerstone of its international engagement.
