Mongolia’s national footwear industry received a major boost after President Khurelsukh Ukhnaa and Minister Enkhbayar Jadamba visited Brand Gutal LLC’s factory. During the visit, officials emphasized the government’s commitment to supporting domestic manufacturing while reducing reliance on imports. Consequently, the national footwear industry continues to grow, supplying both local consumers and international markets.
Brand Gutal LLC produces over 30 types of shoes under the men’s and women’s “Chig” brand and the children’s “Maza” brand. Furthermore, the company uses cattle hide, sheepskin, and goatskin to manufacture around 15,000 pairs annually. Additionally, its products are tailored to local climatic conditions, and the firm has actively begun promoting them abroad. These efforts demonstrate how Mongolia’s national footwear industry combines traditional craftsmanship with modern market strategies.
During the visit, company management presented proposals to strengthen domestic production. They suggested establishing “National Corners” in major retail chains and franchise stores to promote locally made shoes. Moreover, they proposed sourcing school uniforms, footwear, and healthcare workers’ shoes from certified national producers. These initiatives aim to expand domestic procurement and reinforce the national footwear industry’s role in Mongolia’s economy.
Experts note that promoting local production reduces dependency on imports and creates job opportunities in the manufacturing sector. By supporting companies like Brand Gutal, the government encourages sustainable growth and the development of export-oriented industries. In addition, officials highlighted that government-backed initiatives could help Mongolian brands gain recognition in global markets.
The national footwear industry has shown resilience in recent years, combining traditional skills with modern designs and marketing strategies. Through research and development, manufacturers have optimized their products for consumer comfort and environmental sustainability. Therefore, innovation supports the country’s broader industrial strategy, linking domestic production to economic development and international trade.
Looking ahead, the government and private sector aim to expand the reach of Mongolian footwear brands internationally. Furthermore, additional policies supporting domestic procurement, export promotion, and quality standards will strengthen the national footwear industry. Analysts predict that sustained collaboration between the state and manufacturers will elevate Mongolia’s reputation in the global footwear market.
