Tajikistan and Mongolia recently took important steps to enhance economic cooperation by holding their first Tajik-Mongolian business forum in Dushanbe. This event was part of the state visit of Mongolian President Ukhnaagiin Khurelsukh, who came at the invitation of Tajik President Emomali Rahmon. During the forum, officials and business leaders explored practical ways to increase bilateral trade between Tajikistan and Mongolia.
One of the primary goals was to remove existing barriers that have slowed down trade growth. Participants emphasized the need for smoother customs procedures and easier logistics. Moreover, they discussed launching joint projects and programs aimed at strengthening economic ties. Establishing new transport routes, both by road and air, also featured prominently in the talks. These routes will facilitate faster and more efficient movement of goods between the two nations.
In addition, the Chambers of Commerce and Industry from both countries pledged to expand their cooperation. More than 150 representatives from businesses and manufacturing companies attended the forum. They shared ideas and identified opportunities for mutually beneficial partnerships, especially in sectors like investment, agriculture, food production, and trade. These discussions showed a clear willingness to deepen economic engagement on both sides.
Currently, Mongolia exports products such as wool, cashmere, leather, leather goods, meat, and meat products to Tajikistan. Conversely, Tajikistan supplies Mongolia with fruits, berries, vegetables, cotton, and textile products. This exchange forms the core of bilateral trade between Tajikistan and Mongolia. The two countries agreed to further diversify and expand this trade relationship.
According to the Statistics Agency under the President of Tajikistan, trade turnover between the two countries reached $203,400 in the first half of 2025. This amount is especially notable because it is 14.5 times greater than the trade volume during the same period in the previous year. Interestingly, this entire trade volume consisted of imports from Mongolia into Tajikistan.
In conclusion, the forum marked a historic milestone in strengthening economic ties. Both governments demonstrated their commitment to fostering and expanding bilateral trade between Tajikistan and Mongolia.
