President Xi Jinping will join the upcoming BRICS summit virtually from Beijing on Monday and deliver an important speech. Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva invited leaders to the meeting, which will focus on trade and cooperation. The BRICS summit aims to address growing tensions around tariffs, multilateral reform, and climate goals.
The leaders will discuss US trade policies and their impact on emerging economies. Brazil, India, and South Africa currently face tariffs of 30 to 50 percent. Meanwhile, China continues negotiations after its tariffs were reduced to 30 percent. Russia and several new BRICS members face only 10 percent tariffs.
The meeting also highlights reforms for the World Trade Organization and the United Nations Security Council. Leaders will debate conflict resolution in Ukraine and the Middle East. Additionally, Brazil will present its Amazon-based Forever Tropical Forests Fund during the discussion on climate.
Russian President Vladimir Putin confirmed his participation in the BRICS summit through video link. India will send External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar to represent its government. Officials emphasized that BRICS is not an anti-US bloc and seeks balance in global partnerships.
Brazilian advisors stated that BRICS should defend multilateralism while expanding opportunities in trade and investment. They stressed that the group wants good ties with the US but also broader partnerships. According to Brazilian officials, the global system needs reform to reflect today’s realities.
Chinese experts explained that tariffs imposed in July forced BRICS nations to enhance coordination. They noted the group must strengthen internal economic ties to counter external pressures. At the same time, leaders want to reinforce their role as voices for the Global South.
Analysts argued that unilateral trade actions threaten global supply chains and reduce stability. They highlighted that the BRICS summit provides a chance to present a united position. Leaders from member countries agreed to oppose trade measures that undermine fair global rules.
The video summit demonstrates that BRICS intends to address trade challenges with stronger cooperation. Leaders also seek to highlight their shared responsibility in promoting peace, development, and climate action worldwide.
