BYD has taken a bold step to expand its global reach. The company recently launched the world’s largest cargo ship for vehicles. This major development strengthens BYD NEV exports and enhances global logistics capacity.
The new vessel, named BYD Shenzhen, was delivered in Yizheng, Jiangsu Province. It measures 219 meters long and 37.7 meters wide. The ship can carry up to 9,200 vehicles, making it the largest of its kind in the world.
This LNG dual-fuel carrier is BYD’s fourth ro-ro ship, following Explorer No.1, Changzhou, and Hefei. These ships transported over 25,000 NEVs overseas in early 2025 alone.
BYD Shenzhen includes advanced green technologies. It uses high-efficiency engines, BOG recondensers, and special drag-reducing coatings. These features boost energy efficiency and meet the latest International Maritime Organization standards.
Wang Junbao, general manager of BYD’s public business division, spoke at the delivery ceremony. He said the new ship will support low-carbon, reliable global deliveries for BYD NEV exports.
“This ship is more than just transport. It acts as a maritime bridge for Chinese innovation,” Wang added.
BYD Shenzhen will begin loading vehicles this week. Then, it will head to Brazil, a booming market for BYD NEV exports. In 2024, BYD sold 76,700 vehicles in Brazil, marking 328 percent growth.
Overall, BYD’s overseas sales in 2024 reached 417,200 units. Its vehicles now appear in over 400 cities across 100 countries and regions.
China’s NEV industry also saw major gains in early 2025. Production jumped 50.4 percent to 3.18 million units. NEV exports grew 43.9 percent year-on-year, totaling 441,000 units.
With this massive ship, BYD NEV exports gain a powerful boost in global competitiveness and sustainable delivery.
