Contaminated Eggs Force Chiayi Farm Fine of NT$120,000

Date:

Wenya Farm in Chiayi County received a NT$120,000 fine for distributing contaminated eggs containing high levels of fipronil-sulfone, local authorities confirmed. The Chiayi County Government imposed the penalty after inspectors traced the tainted eggs to Wenya Farm following a health alert.

Last week, the Changhua County Public Health Bureau detected excessive fipronil-sulfone in a batch of eggs from a local supplier. The Food and Drug Administration promptly recalled over 150,000 eggs nationwide. Officials temporarily banned Wenya Farm from selling all its products until it meets safety standards.

Further inspections found that both eggs and chicken feathers from the farm exceeded permissible pesticide levels, confirming the presence of contaminated eggs. Authorities warned that distributing tainted eggs threatens public health and undermines consumer confidence in Taiwan’s food supply. The Chiayi County Government instructed Wenya Farm to improve its management practices and adopt stricter monitoring before resuming sales.

In response, the farm pledged to enforce better quality control measures and ensure future compliance with safety regulations. Experts explained that fipronil-sulfone can accumulate in eggs and pose health risks if consumed in high quantities. They advised consumers to heed government guidance during product recalls.

The authorities plan to continue unannounced inspections at other poultry farms to prevent further incidents involving contaminated eggs. The incident underscores Taiwan’s ongoing commitment to proactive enforcement of food safety regulations and protecting public health.
