Chinese President Xi Jinping and Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel exchanged congratulations on Sunday to mark 65 years of China-Cuba ties. Xi emphasized that Cuba was among the first countries in the Western Hemisphere to establish diplomatic relations with New China. Xi recalled that Diaz-Canel recently attended commemorations in China for the 80th anniversary of victory in the Chinese People’s War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression. Xi stressed that he attaches great importance to the development of China-Cuba ties. In addition, he expressed readiness to work with Diaz-Canel to carry forward traditional friendship, deepen political trust, and strengthen strategic coordination. On the same day, Chinese Premier Li Qiang and Cuban Prime Minister Manuel Marrero also exchanged congratulatory messages. Li said he is ready to maintain close communication with Marrero and implement the important consensus reached by the two heads of state.
