Trade Cooperation Tops Agenda in China-EU Rare Earths Dialogue

Date:

China and the European Union are focusing on trade cooperation as they prepare for talks in Brussels. The meeting will address China’s export controls on rare earth materials. This discussion highlights the importance of dialogue between two major trading partners.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun confirmed that both sides agreed to meet following EU trade chief Maros Sefcovic’s remarks. The talks aim to resolve concerns over China’s rare earth export measures. Rare earths are essential for electric vehicles, defense, and advanced technologies.

Guo emphasized that China hopes the EU will uphold the cooperation. He urged Brussels to maintain free trade and reject protectionism. He also called for a fair, transparent, and non-discriminatory business environment for all companies.

Moreover, Guo said trade differences should be handled through dialogue rather than unilateral actions. He stressed that resolving issues together strengthens trade cooperation and defends WTO principles.

The Brussels talks illustrate how cooperation remains central to China-EU relations. China has also warned against discriminatory practices that could harm global supply chains. Rare earths are critical, and stable trade cooperation ensures supply security for industries worldwide.

Analysts say the meeting could ease tensions and reinforce long-term trade cooperation. Both sides are expected to discuss measures for transparent communication and supply stability.

Furthermore, trade cooperation signals a pragmatic approach amid rising global trade uncertainties. It may help maintain economic growth and global market confidence. China and the EU appear committed to working together despite challenges.
