China Launches World’s First High-Voltage PV Certification Base in Hainan

Date:

China inaugurated the world’s first high-voltage PV certification base in Hainan, marking a breakthrough for renewable energy innovation. The facility sits in Wenchang and focuses on testing and validating 2,000-volt photovoltaic technology. Consequently, this launch strengthens China’s position in advancing high-voltage PV standards and applications.

Datang Hainan Energy Development Co., Ltd. developed and now operates the project. Moreover, the company, together with the China Quality Certification Center, unveiled the base during a seminar in Haikou. The event also gathered energy experts and industry leaders to discuss the future of solar technologies.

High-voltage PV technology reduces cable usage and lowers electricity costs compared to 1,500-volt systems. However, industry observers continue to raise questions about stability, compatibility, and resilience in extreme conditions. Therefore, the new base will generate empirical data to address these challenges.

In addition, the facility includes comprehensive data collection systems and performance-evaluation tools. It also simulates full life-cycle operations to create standards for high-voltage PV. As a result, industry experts view these standards as essential for scaling up large ground-based solar stations.

Furthermore, Zhang Junbao, general manager of Datang Hainan Energy Development, stressed the importance of empirical testing. He explained that practical data transforms laboratory theories into reliable power-station solutions. At the same time, he highlighted that Hainan’s climate, with high humidity and salt exposure, offers an ideal testing ground.

This milestone also demonstrates China’s broader strategy to expand clean energy infrastructure. Policymakers, meanwhile, continue to push renewable technologies to cut carbon emissions and enhance energy security. Consequently, high-voltage PV could set a benchmark for future global projects, delivering greater efficiency and lower costs.

The inauguration additionally shows Hainan’s rising role as a hub for energy research. Local officials expect the base to attract new investment and partnerships in renewable projects. Moreover, they see it as a platform to boost China’s influence in setting global PV standards.

Looking forward, the certification base will support the safe deployment of 2,000-volt PV systems. As renewable demand continues to grow, high-voltage PV will play a key role in shaping the next generation of solar power solutions.
