Power Battery Growth Drives China’s Global Leadership

Date:

China’s power battery growth accelerated in 2025, reinforcing its global dominance in clean energy technologies. Data from the 2025 World Power Battery Conference in Yibin, Sichuan Province, showed sales rising 48.9 percent year-on-year to 786 gigawatt-hours (GWh).

Furthermore, power battery exports reached 129 GWh during the same period, up 32.7 percent from last year. This sharp increase reflects how power battery growth continues to benefit from the booming demand for new energy vehicles (NEVs).

At the Yibin conference, industry leaders highlighted China’s growing global influence. Six Chinese firms ranked among the world’s top 10 battery producers in 2024, collectively holding 67.1 percent of total installations. This figure rose nearly four percentage points compared with the previous year.

Meanwhile, global battery installations climbed to 894.4 GWh last year, up 27.2 percent. Experts attributed this jump to rising NEV sales and higher adoption rates in major markets across Asia and Europe.

In addition, over 100 domestic and international companies joined the 2025 World Power Battery Conference. Among them were leading players like CATL, BYD, and Dassault Systèmes. They discussed supply chain resilience, raw material sourcing, and strategies for advancing sustainable battery production.

Since launching in 2022, the annual Yibin event has become a key innovation and investment hub. Yibin now contributes roughly 16 percent of China’s total power battery output. Over three years, the city hosted 249 major projects worth about 300 billion yuan, or 42.4 billion U.S. dollars.

Moreover, analysts said continued power battery growth will support China’s long-term carbon neutrality goals. They expect ongoing investment and government policies to further enhance the nation’s leadership in renewable energy.

Looking ahead, manufacturers plan to increase efficiency, cut emissions, and deepen global partnerships. Consequently, these steps will help China maintain its lead in the global energy transition and strengthen its clean-tech competitiveness.
