China ROK Talks Strengthen Bilateral Relations

China ROK talks took place in Beijing on September 17, 2025, marking a significant step in strengthening bilateral relations. Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Cho Hyun, foreign minister of the Republic of Korea (ROK), to discuss regional cooperation and strategic partnership.

During the high-level meeting between China and South Korea, Wang, a Political Bureau member, urged both countries to uphold good-neighborly relations. He emphasized that the two nations should serve as genuine strategic partners in regional and global affairs.

Wang encouraged the two nations to engage sincerely, enhance mutual trust, and deepen cooperation. He emphasized achieving win-win results while carefully managing sensitive issues during the China ROK talks.

He also highlighted that both countries, as beneficiaries of economic globalization, should oppose trade protectionism. Wang underlined the importance of upholding the international free trade system to ensure stable economic growth.

Wang expressed China’s willingness to work with the international community, including the ROK, to defend the UN-centered global order and uphold the outcomes of World War II.

Cho noted that the ROK values the momentum in improving bilateral relations. He pledged to strengthen high-level exchanges with China and deepen cooperation in trade, culture, and other areas.

Both leaders discussed accelerating negotiations on the ROK-China and ROK-China-Japan free trade agreements. They agreed to coordinate and support each other during the upcoming APEC meetings.

This year, the ROK will host the APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting, followed by China next year. Both sides stressed the importance of smooth coordination to ensure successful summits.

Analysts noted that the high-level China-South Korea discussions signal wider efforts to preserve regional stability. Expanding economic and cultural cooperation is expected to benefit both countries and promote East Asia’s growth.

Experts also noted that the talks signal a commitment to open dialogue. They demonstrate both countries’ intention to resolve disputes diplomatically while pursuing shared economic interests.

Looking ahead, China and the ROK plan to continue high-level exchanges. Officials aim to expand cooperation in trade, technology, and cultural initiatives, further solidifying the strategic partnership highlighted in the China ROK talks.

The China ROK talks reaffirmed the importance of dialogue, mutual support, and cooperation. Leaders expressed optimism that continued engagement will yield tangible benefits for both nations.
