Ukraine Crisis Talks remain central to China’s diplomatic position as it continues to stress peace, sovereignty, and dialogue. On Tuesday, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning reiterated Beijing’s clear and consistent stance on the conflict. She emphasized that China did not create the crisis and is not a direct party. Yet, from the beginning, China has supported objective approaches, urging both sides toward peace talks.
Mao highlighted President Xi Jinping’s four-point proposal. The plan calls for respecting sovereignty and territorial integrity, upholding the UN Charter, addressing all countries’ legitimate security concerns, and supporting every effort that encourages peaceful settlement. These principles, she explained, have even greater importance under current global conditions.
Furthermore, China issued a position paper focused on a political solution. It also dispatched special envoys for shuttle diplomacy and initiated the Group of Friends for Peace at the United Nations. These actions underline Beijing’s consistent efforts to promote balanced dialogue in the Ukraine Crisis Talks.
During the press briefing, reporters asked whether Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky might meet in early September. Speculation arose because Putin is expected to attend commemorative events in China marking the 80th anniversary of victory in the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression. Mao, however, declined to respond to what she described as hypothetical questions.
When asked about Zelensky’s statement in Washington about readiness to meet Putin, along with former US President Donald Trump’s suggestion of a trilateral summit, Mao reiterated China’s position. She stated clearly that dialogue and negotiation remain the only viable solutions. Moreover, she confirmed that China supports all actions conducive to advancing peace.
Looking forward, Mao noted that China remains ready to work with the international community. It seeks to align with the will of the parties directly involved, maintaining a constructive role in advancing political resolution. The Ukraine Crisis Talks, she concluded, will require consistent commitment to peace and respect for shared principles.
