Ukraine Peace Talks: China Welcomes US-Russia Dialogue

Date:

China has reaffirmed its support for Ukraine peace talks as global leaders renew diplomatic efforts to end the conflict. The Chinese Foreign Ministry welcomed dialogue between the United States and Russia, calling it a step toward a political resolution.

Furthermore, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian said in Beijing that China supports all actions promoting a peaceful settlement of the Ukraine crisis. He added that communication between Moscow and Washington could stabilize the situation and encourage new negotiations.

The statement followed news that US President Donald Trump plans to meet Russian President Vladimir Putin in Budapest, Hungary, within weeks. Trump confirmed that he recently spoke with Putin by phone and described their exchange as productive. He also said he would discuss the conversation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky during an upcoming meeting in Washington.

Observers believe the planned meeting signals fresh momentum for Ukraine peace talks after months of stalled diplomacy. Moreover, a Chinese analyst said the discussions between Trump and Putin could open the door to future compromises, although a complete breakthrough remains uncertain.

The analyst explained that deep disagreements over territory continue to divide Russia and Ukraine. Both sides remain unwilling to make major concessions, despite the growing humanitarian and economic toll. Consequently, the fighting, now in its fourth year, has devastated cities, displaced millions, and strained regional stability.

He added that holding the meeting in Europe carries symbolic weight. The location highlights the region’s central role in resolving the conflict and reflects hopes for tangible progress.

Meanwhile, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán praised the announcement, calling it an encouraging sign for global peace efforts. He said the world urgently needs renewed diplomatic engagement to prevent further escalation.

China has consistently urged all parties to continue Ukraine peace talks and avoid deepening hostilities. At a recent United Nations briefing, Chinese representatives called for a ceasefire and emphasized the need for inclusive negotiations.

Ultimately, as tensions persist, China continues to promote dialogue over confrontation. Its latest remarks reaffirm Beijing’s readiness to cooperate with the international community and support a political solution. Therefore, with major powers re-engaging, the Ukraine peace talks could enter a crucial new phase toward lasting peace.
