Song Tao, head of both the Taiwan Work Office of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, made the statements during a gathering in Fuzhou, Fujian Province. The event celebrated the upcoming Mid-Autumn Festival and included Taiwan guests.
Among the attendees was Sean Lien, vice chairman of the Chinese Kuomintang (KMT) party. Song Tao called for safeguarding the overall interests of the Chinese nation. He emphasized the importance of resolutely opposing “Taiwan independence” and resisting external interference. Furthermore, he urged boosting exchanges, cooperation, and integrated development across the Strait.
Lien noted that the KMT will continue strengthening cross-Strait relations through enhanced exchanges and cooperation. He stressed that this approach should uphold the 1992 Consensus while firmly opposing “Taiwan independence.” The remarks indicate ongoing political alignment between certain Taiwanese parties and the mainland on cross-Strait engagement.
