China US Relations Highlight Cooperation and Challenges

Date:

China US relations took center stage on Wednesday when Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi held a phone conversation with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio. Wang, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, emphasized the importance of mutual responsibility in this new era.

Wang said both nations must follow the strategic guidance of their leaders. He stressed that China and the US must ensure the two giant ships of diplomacy stay on course without losing momentum. He pointed out that implementing agreements between the two heads of state is crucial for maintaining stability.

At the same time, Wang criticized recent American actions that he said harmed China’s interests. He explained that these moves interfered in China’s internal affairs and damaged the progress of China US relations. He urged the United States to act with caution, especially regarding sensitive issues like Taiwan.

Wang also reminded that China and the US once fought together during World War II. He argued that in today’s world, the two sides must cooperate to promote peace, prosperity, and global problem-solving. He underlined that major powers should shoulder greater responsibilities together.

Both governments considered the conversation timely and productive. They agreed to strengthen the guiding role of head-of-state diplomacy. In addition, they committed to managing differences carefully, exploring practical cooperation, and promoting the long-term stability of China US relations.

A Chinese scholar observed that the discussion served as both a warning and a constructive framework. He explained that Beijing outlined clear principles for cooperation while stressing firm opposition to what it views as harmful US actions.

According to experts, Washington’s visits and military contacts with Taiwan have intensified China’s concerns. During the call, Beijing emphasized the need for red lines and boundaries in bilateral engagement.

Meanwhile, Chinese Defense Minister Dong Jun spoke with US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth on Tuesday. Dong underscored that no attempt to support Taiwan independence or contain China will succeed. He stated that the US cannot damage China’s interests while expecting smooth cooperation in other areas.

Ultimately, Chinese officials made clear that stable China US relations depend on respecting core interests, managing differences, and avoiding actions that trigger confrontation.
