China Women’s Hockey Wins Asia Cup

Date:

China women’s hockey claimed the Women’s Hockey Asia Cup title by defeating India 4-1 in the final. This victory marks the team’s first continental championship in 16 years and secures a spot in the 2026 Women’s FIH Hockey World Cup in Belgium and the Netherlands.

Moreover, China women’s hockey now joins South Korea and Japan, each holding three Asia Cup titles, reflecting the growing competitiveness of Asian women’s hockey. In the final, China faced an early setback when India scored in the first minute, but the team quickly responded.

Initially, India’s short-corner goal came just 59 seconds into the match, surprising China women’s hockey. However, in the second quarter, Ou Zixia converted a scoring chance from the top of the circle, leveling the score 1-1 by halftime.

After the break, China women’s hockey capitalized on a missed Indian short-corner attempt. Li Hong carried the ball into the circle and calmly scored to give the team a 2-1 lead. Soon after, Zou Meirong struck in front of the goal, followed by Zhong Jiaqi’s reverse shot, sealing the 4-1 victory.

Consequently, this championship represents China women’s hockey’s third Asia Cup title and first since 2009. The win also ensures their participation in the 2026 World Cup.

“I’m very happy to have won and lifted the trophy,” said Li Hong, scorer of the decisive goal. “We hope to perform well at next year’s World Cup.”

Throughout the tournament, China women’s hockey showcased both experience and youth. Zou Meirong finished as top scorer with 11 goals, while 18-year-old Luo Yaxi earned the Best Young Player award.

Analysts highlight that China women’s hockey’s victory demonstrates the team’s growing strength and depth. Furthermore, the combination of seasoned and emerging players positions the squad well for upcoming competitions.

Looking ahead, China women’s hockey will build on this momentum for the 2026 World Cup. Coaches plan to refine strategies, improve coordination, and nurture young talent to maintain international competitiveness.

Overall, China women’s hockey’s comeback in the Asia Cup final underscores the nation’s commitment to women’s sports. Consequently, fans and officials are optimistic about the team’s future achievements on the global stage.
