China’s Jiajin Mountain Tunnel Transforms Travel and Tourism in Sichuan

Date:

The Jiajin Mountain Tunnel, a landmark infrastructure project, was completed on September 28 in Sichuan Province. Consequently, Jiajin Mountain Tunnel will begin trial operations on October 1, reducing travel time across the historic pass from one hour to just ten minutes. As a result, the tunnel directly benefits 110,000 residents in surrounding communities, ending decades of winter isolation.

Moreover, the Jiajin Mountain Tunnel lies beneath the first snow mountain crossed by the Central Red Army during the Long March in 1935, giving it both historical and strategic significance. During the Long March, the Red Army overcame extreme cold and high-altitude conditions atop the 4,000-meter Jiajin Mountain. Therefore, the tunnel preserves the spirit of perseverance and determination associated with this historic journey.

During construction, teams employed cutting-edge technologies to overcome the challenges of high-altitude tunneling. In fact, experts highlight that the project set national records for efficiency by completing a 9.35-kilometer passage under extremely demanding conditions. Additionally, engineers worked meticulously to ensure safety, durability, and minimal environmental impact.

Local officials emphasized that Jiajin Mountain Tunnel will boost regional tourism while promoting economic integration. Furthermore, it will facilitate easier transportation for goods, encourage investment, and enhance cultural exchanges among ethnic groups in the area. According to government sources, the tunnel represents a key step in connecting remote communities with larger urban centers.

“The completion of Jiajin Mountain Tunnel marks a historic achievement in modern infrastructure,” said a provincial transport official. “It demonstrates China’s ability to overcome extreme geographical challenges and improve the lives of local residents.” Similarly, industry analysts suggest that the tunnel will attract new business opportunities and support sustainable development in the region.

The project also aligns with broader national goals of improving connectivity in mountainous and remote areas. By shortening travel times and improving accessibility, the tunnel strengthens the link between local economies and larger markets. In addition, it preserves a site of historical importance, offering visitors a unique perspective on the Red Army’s Long March.

Looking ahead, authorities plan to monitor the tunnel during its trial operation phase and gradually expand transport services. Consequently, the completion of Jiajin Mountain Tunnel signals a new era of mobility, economic growth, and cultural exchange for Sichuan Province and beyond.

Overall, Jiajin Mountain Tunnel is now poised to transform travel and trade in the region, reflecting the integration of historical legacy with modern engineering.
