This year’s theme, “Breaking Boundaries, Intelligent Insights into the Future,” runs for five days in the ancient city of Pingyao. Moreover, with over 20,000 works submitted, the Pingyao photography festival highlights both artistic innovation and cultural exchange.

In addition, the event has attracted over 5,000 photographers from 34 countries and regions, as well as 25 Chinese provinces. Notably, Belgian photographer Carmen De Vos and British photographer Clare Marie Bailey are attending in person. Meanwhile, works by German photographer Stefanie Schneider are also featured at this year’s Pingyao photo festival.

Furthermore, the festival showcases a Polaroid exhibition, giving visitors a new perspective on contemporary photography. Meanwhile, a training program offers hands-on instruction in Pingyao and Bottrop, Germany. This initiative helps emerging artists and curators at the Pingyao photo festival enhance their professional skills.

Over the past 25 years, the Pingyao photography festival has exhibited more than 300,000 works from over 100 countries. Consequently, millions of visitors have attended, making the Pingyao photography festival a key platform for cultural exchange.

Additionally, officials emphasize that the Pingyao photo festival nurtures creative talent and enhances the city’s tourism appeal. Furthermore, Pingyao’s UNESCO World Cultural Heritage designation offers a distinctive backdrop for the festival’s exhibitions.

Experts also note that the Pingyao photo festival has become a center for international collaboration. Artists share ideas, test new techniques, and connect with audiences worldwide. These exchanges, in turn, help create a more diverse and vibrant photography community.

Looking ahead, organizers plan to expand digital outreach in the coming years. For instance, online exhibitions, live streaming, and virtual tours will allow more people to experience the Pingyao photography festival. Therefore, this strategy ensures the festival continues shaping global photography trends.

With its long history, wide participation, and innovative programs, the Pingyao photo festival positions Pingyao as a center of culture and art. Ultimately, it emphasizes the value of creativity while safeguarding the city’s historical heritage.
