China’s Railway Trips Reach Record During National Holiday

Date:

China’s railway trips hit a record high on the first day of the combined National Day and Mid-Autumn Festival holiday. Railway trips reached 23.13 million on Wednesday, marking the highest single-day figure in history, according to the national railway operator.

The China State Railway Group Co., Ltd. reported that travel demand surged during the eight-day holiday. Experts say train journeys indicate rising tourism and increased family visits throughout the festive season.

Railway journeys are expected to remain strong, with the operator estimating 19.3 million train journeys on Thursday. Authorities added 1,409 extra trains to handle the peak travel period. Officials also emphasized efficient scheduling and crowd management to ensure smooth rail travel.

Across the country, railway authorities implemented coordinated measures to make railway trips safer and more convenient. These measures include smart luggage lockers at key stations and enhanced power supply checks at major hubs. Such initiatives aim to improve passenger experience and reduce delays.

The Ministry of Transport predicts about 2.36 billion rail journeys nationwide during the holiday period. Daily averages are expected to reach 295 million trips, a 3.2 percent rise from the same period in 2024. Officials attribute the increase in train travel to higher disposable incomes and greater mobility among domestic travelers.

Transportation analysts note that record railway trips signal public confidence in rail travel. They also say authorities’ preparations for crowd control and train scheduling have been effective. This demonstrates the railway sector’s ability to manage peak travel demands.

Moreover, the holiday underscores the strategic role of rail travel in China. Train journeys support tourism and family reunions, promoting social cohesion and boosting domestic consumption. Analysts note that continued investment in railway infrastructure will ensure long-term growth in train travel.

Looking ahead, authorities plan to monitor travel patterns and adjust train schedules in real time. They also aim to expand smart systems and technological upgrades to improve efficiency. This ensures that railway trips remain safe, reliable, and convenient.

Overall, the record-breaking railway trips underscore China’s transport capacity and the growing reliance on rail networks during major holidays. Officials expect the sector to maintain high standards as demand for railway trips increases in the coming years.
