Comprehensive Partnership Strengthened Between Australia and Mongolia

Governor-General of Australia Samantha Mostyn, along with her spouse Simeon Beckett, concluded a historic State Visit to Mongolia. The visit, extended at the invitation of President Khurelsukh Ukhnaa, aimed to strengthen cooperation and mutual understanding.

During the visit, President Khurelsukh and Governor-General Mostyn held official talks. They discussed ways to expand friendly relations and enhance collaboration across multiple sectors. In addition, they briefed media representatives about the key outcomes of their discussions.

The Australian delegation visited major projects supported by the Australian government. These included the Oyu Tolgoi project and the Women’s Resilience to Climate Change programme. Furthermore, they toured the Polytechnic College in Nalaikh, observing educational advancements.

They also explored the “Libraries Without Borders” initiative. This project operates in 21 aimags and nine districts of Ulaanbaatar. Over 40 Australian literary works were donated to the National Library of Mongolia, fostering cultural exchange.

Moreover, Governor-General Mostyn met with civil society representatives, Australian volunteers, women entrepreneurs, and Mongolian graduates of Australian scholarship and defence programs. These meetings strengthened people-to-people ties.

In a symbolic gesture, the Governor-General, President Khurelsukh, and First Lady Luvsandorj Bolortsetseg planted a commemorative tree at the “Ikh Tenger” Complex. They also visited the Chinggis Khaan National Museum and enjoyed a festival showcasing traditional Three Manly Games, knucklebone shooting, and national arts performances.

This visit marks the first by an Australian Governor-General in 31 years. It has opened a new chapter in bilateral relations, emphasizing a Comprehensive Partnership. Both nations reaffirmed their commitment to expanding collaboration in trade, education, culture, and environmental programs.

Governor-General Samantha Mostyn and her spouse departed Mongolia. They were warmly seen off by Foreign Minister Batmunkh Battsetseg and senior diplomatic representatives.

Overall, the State Visit strengthened ties and highlighted shared goals, ensuring the Comprehensive Partnership will continue to grow for years.
