Mongolia intensifies COP17 preparations as the National Committee held its ninth coordination meeting on October 3, 2025. The meeting marked a key step in ensuring the country is ready to host the 17th Session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification. COP17 preparations are crucial for showcasing Mongolia’s leadership in sustainable land management and combating desertification globally.
During the session, officials discussed proposals from consultancy organizations to manage the conference venue and facilities. The committee reached an agreement to contract a consultancy firm tasked with delivering logistical and organizational support. This step ensures compliance with Government Resolution No. 36, adopted earlier this year, which outlines the strategic framework for the event.
The National Committee nominated Members of Parliament Munkhbayasgalan Luvsanbyamba and Bolormaa Enkhbat as Special Envoys to assist with COP17 preparations. Their roles will include coordinating national and international stakeholders, supporting policy development, and raising awareness about desertification issues. Experts note that appointing high-level envoys strengthens Mongolia’s ability to attract funding and foster international cooperation.
The COP17 preparations also include enhancing communication channels with global environmental organizations. Officials emphasized that timely planning and strategic coordination are essential to host a successful international conference. The National Committee will oversee venue readiness, participant accommodations, and technological infrastructure to ensure smooth operations during COP17.
Munkhbayasgalan Luvsanbyamba stated that the envoys will work to expand Mongolia’s influence in global desertification discussions. Similarly, Bolormaa Enkhbat highlighted the importance of international collaboration to implement effective land restoration programs.
