Located in northern Fukuoka, Hibikinada Ryokuchi Green Park stands as the largest green space in Kitakyushu City. This expansive park offers a variety of attractions that make it one of Japan’s top 100 parks. The park is a year-round haven for nature lovers, with something special for every season.
In spring, visitors can enjoy the sight of over 200 cherry trees in full bloom. These trees typically reach their peak at the end of March and the beginning of April. The cherry blossoms provide a stunning visual display, drawing locals and tourists alike. In addition to the cherry blossoms, the park also boasts a stunning Rose Garden with over 2,500 roses. This garden features hundreds of cultivars and hosts an annual rose festival in both spring and fall.
Cycling enthusiasts will find plenty of options for exploration. The park offers two distinct cycling routes. The interior trail, just over four kilometers long, takes around 20 minutes to complete. This course loops around one of the park’s large ponds. Along the way, cyclists can stop at scenic photo spots, including one overlooking the vast pond. At the far end of the pond, there’s an iconic red-arched bridge, a perfect place for a photo op.
For those seeking a longer ride, the exterior path stretches approximately seven kilometers. Cyclists can expect to spend about 40 minutes covering this route, which takes them around both large ponds. The exterior trail also ventures through the park’s more secluded forest areas.
One of the park’s most unique features is its world-famous circular swing set. Measuring 163 meters, this swing holds the Guinness World Record for the longest swing set. It can accommodate up to 100 people at once. For those seeking more playtime, the park offers various playgrounds. One such attraction is Ami~go!, a seven-meter-high playground complete with rope bridges and lookout towers. Visitors can also challenge themselves on a bouldering wall featuring recreated fossilized creatures.
