Flood recovery heroes continue to lead critical operations in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region after devastating floods swept across northern China. As rescue teams expand efforts, Communist Party of China members remain at the forefront of life-saving missions.
In Huairou district, more than 15,000 Party members from 1,100 grassroots organizations joined the relief effort. Among them, Yin Chunyan, Party secretary of Sunhugou village, and her husband, Cai Yongzhang, went missing during an evacuation. Both were swept away by rising waters while helping residents escape danger.
Furthermore, officials have confirmed that four of Beijing’s nine missing persons are village-level Party secretaries. All were involved in rescue operations. Executive Vice-Mayor Xia Linmao shared that the city’s death toll reached 44 by Thursday noon.
Meanwhile, in Miyun district, crews repaired the final damaged stretch of Xihuo Road on Thursday. This reopened a vital supply and rescue route. Previously, the flood had impacted 72 roads across Miyun, Huairou, Yanqing, and Pinggu.
Zheng Mingming, a road engineer, said repairs were urgent and non-stop. He emotionally recalled helping build that road ten years ago. Crews faced collapsed bridges and mudslides. In some cases, teams used riverbeds as temporary access points.
As a result of their commitment, all 29 major roads in Beijing have reopened. Access has now been restored to remote mountain communities.
At the same time, in Hebei’s Xinglong county, search operations intensified. Eighteen people remain missing after floods in Liudaohe township killed eight. Jiang Feng, deputy commander of Chengde’s fire brigade, said the team deployed 181 personnel for a downstream sweep.
In addition, flood recovery heroes also brought shelter and hope. In Zhujiagou village, homestay owner Xie Changcai hosted 24 displaced neighbors. Despite concern over resources, he welcomed them, saying government support would help everyone survive.
Elsewhere, in Tianjin, over 140 State Grid Party members worked around the clock to restore electricity. Yang Yang led teams through muddy paths, manually delivering 200-kilogram generators to remote areas. With drone support and satellite communication, all affected villages had power restored by Wednesday.
By Thursday, 23 of 29 damaged telecom sites were operational. In Jizhou district, tourism began to recover. Nineteen scenic areas, including Panshan Mountain, reopened. Additionally, the government lifted weather alerts and confirmed clearing most roads.
