Food Poisoning Probe Shuts Chin Liu Cuisine Branches in New Taipei City

Food poisoning probe has shut down all branches of Chin Liu Cuisine in New Taipei City. Specifically, the New Taipei City Department of Health reported 44 suspected cases yesterday and 55 additional cases today. The total number of people seeking medical attention has reached 99. Mayor Hou You-yi announced that the city government would pursue legal action depending on testing results.

Eighty-seven people who ate at the Beixin Road branch reported food poisoning symptoms. Additionally, twelve people who ate at the Zhongxing Road branch also fell ill. Patients experienced abdominal pain, diarrhea, and fever. Six people remain in the hospital for ongoing treatment. Twenty individuals are under observation for their symptoms. Consequently, all other affected patients have been sent home to recover.

Department chief secretary Yang Shih-hao provided additional details about the investigation. Testing results typically take two to three weeks to complete. For instance, laboratories will analyze food leftovers from both branches. Staff samples will also undergo thorough testing. Environmental samples from the kitchens will provide further evidence. The department, the Centers for Disease Control, and the Food and Drug Administration will conduct the analysis.

All three branches of Chin Liu Cuisine have temporarily closed their doors. None of the branches have applied to reopen at this time. The health department will continue monitoring the situation closely. Mayor Hou stated that the government would support those affected by the incident. Moreover, the health department will assist victims in seeking compensation for their medical expenses.

If tests confirm food poisoning, authorities will refer the case for investigation under the Act Governing Food Safety and Sanitation. The restaurant could face significant penalties under this law. Previous food safety incidents in Taiwan have resulted in fines and legal action against violators. The New Taipei City government has taken a firm stance on food safety violations. Therefore, restaurant owners may face criminal charges if negligence contributed to the outbreak.

Industry observers note that food safety remains a critical issue for Taiwan’s dining industry. Multiple food poisoning incidents have occurred across the island in recent years. Government agencies have increased inspection frequency at high-risk establishments. The Chin Liu Cuisine case highlights the importance of proper food handling procedures. Thus, other restaurants may review their safety protocols following this incident. The health department urges anyone who ate at these branches and feels ill to seek medical attention immediately.
