Foreign passenger traffic through the Zhuhai land port of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge continues to rise sharply. According to official data, passenger traffic grew by 70 percent year on year as of Sunday. Over 172,000 international trips have crossed the massive bridge already this year, showing remarkable momentum. China’s ongoing expansion of visa-free policies largely fueled the jump in foreign passenger traffic at the port. Meanwhile, the Zhuhai land port remains the mainland’s only land port offering direct road access to Hong Kong International Airport.
Moreover, overall passenger traffic across the bridge also witnessed significant growth this year. By Sunday, total passenger trips increased 18.9 percent year on year, surpassing 10 million. Impressively, this milestone came 25 days earlier than it did in 2024, reflecting the bridge’s growing importance. Passenger enthusiasm, supported by more flexible travel policies, has given foreign passenger traffic an undeniable boost. Every month, the bridge welcomes a greater number of international travelers, strengthening regional ties.
Additionally, trips made by mainland residents across the bridge climbed by 30.3 percent to reach 4.18 million. Cross-border trips by vehicles registered in Hong Kong and Macao also soared by 32.4 percent. So far this year, vehicle crossings through the Zhuhai land port have totaled nearly 1.2 million. On average, more than 10,000 vehicles pass through the port daily, highlighting the bridge’s strategic significance. Naturally, foreign passenger traffic continues to play a major role in these impressive figures.
Stretching 55 kilometers, the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge is an engineering marvel. It connects Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, Zhuhai City in Guangdong Province, and Macao Special Administrative Region. Furthermore, it holds the title of the world’s longest sea-crossing bridge-and-tunnel combination. With seamless connectivity and expanded visa options, the bridge fosters growing cross-border integration. Therefore, foreign passenger traffic remains a vital driver of this success story.
Looking ahead, experts predict that traffic volumes will keep rising throughout 2025. China’s supportive policies and the bridge’s strategic advantages will further stimulate international travel. Regional economies stand to benefit significantly from this surge in connectivity and tourism. Policymakers plan to continue enhancing facilities at the Zhuhai land port to meet growing demand. Clearly, foreign passenger traffic will stay central to the bridge’s ongoing evolution and economic impact.
