Taiwan’s boxing star Lin Yu-ting has officially withdrawn from the World Boxing Championships in Liverpool. Her team made the decision after facing an unresolved gender test dispute with the sport’s governing body.
World Boxing recently introduced mandatory gender testing for all female athletes. This rule change created widespread confusion and affected Lin’s ability to compete. Her team followed the new requirements and sent all necessary documents over a month ago.
Despite their efforts, World Boxing never responded to confirm Lin’s eligibility. The Taiwanese boxing association tried several times to follow up but received no answers. With the tournament approaching, they chose to protect Lin by pulling her out.
“We won’t send athletes overseas without any guarantees,” said a representative from the association. They stressed the need for clear procedures and timely communication from the organizers.
This gender test dispute has already disrupted Lin’s international career once before. At the 2024 Paris Olympics, she faced similar controversy alongside Algerian boxer Imane Khelif. Both won gold medals but became targets of intense scrutiny over gender eligibility.
Lin’s team expressed deep frustration over the repeat of such issues. They believe international sports bodies must provide faster and more transparent systems. Right now, the lack of clarity continues to put athletes under unnecessary stress.
Another major boxing event is scheduled for November in India. Taiwan’s officials warned that they cannot afford another delay or miscommunication. “We can’t let this situation drag on any longer,” said the spokesperson.
Lin Yu-ting remains one of Taiwan’s most accomplished and respected athletes. Her withdrawal disappoints fans but reflects the difficult choices athletes must make during a gender test dispute.
World Boxing now faces increased pressure from athletes, associations, and media. Many demand a review of the new testing policies and better coordination with national teams.
Lin’s team still hopes to receive a formal response before the next competition. They want to avoid a repeat of this setback in future events. For now, Lin continues to train while waiting for clear answers.
Until World Boxing resolves the gender test dispute, Lin’s international boxing career remains uncertain. Athletes need fairness, not confusion. National teams need trust, not silence.
