Global Development Cooperation Drives Unity at Tongzhou Forum

Date:

Leaders and experts at the Tongzhou Global Development Forum 2025 highlighted that global development cooperation is vital for shared prosperity. They urged nations to bridge divides and build stronger frameworks for inclusive progress.

The forum, themed “Coexistence in Harmony: The Foundation and Order of Global Development,” gathered over 500 participants from more than 40 countries. Held in Beijing’s Tongzhou District and hosted by Renmin University of China, the event reinforced the importance of unity in global development cooperation.

Throughout the discussions, delegates examined solutions to pressing global issues. They addressed topics such as artificial intelligence, food and energy security, digital finance, and capital markets. Moreover, they stressed that innovation and cooperation can strengthen the world’s economic and social resilience.

Jin Xin, assistant minister of the International Department of the Communist Party of China’s Central Committee, emphasized that tackling development challenges must remain a top priority. He said every nation deserves the opportunity to advance through shared progress and global development cooperation.

Meanwhile, former German finance minister Joerg Kukies called for stronger collaboration, warning that current efforts are still inadequate. His remarks underscored the growing urgency to reform global systems through better coordination and mutual trust.

The forum also introduced a report outlining the Comprehensive Development Goals (CDGs), a long-term framework extending to 2050. According to the report, the CDGs prioritize people-centered growth, equality, and sustainability. These goals further illustrate how effective global development cooperation can shape a more balanced world.

Phumla Williams from South Africa’s National School of Government urged policymakers to prioritize community needs. Similarly, Liu Qing, executive dean of RUC’s National Academy of Development and Strategy, explained that the CDGs integrate China’s development philosophy with practical experience in poverty reduction and green transition.

Additionally, forum participants discussed the upcoming 15th Five-Year Plan for 2026–2030. Ekaterina Antonova from St. Petersburg State University of Economics said the plan provides stability amid global uncertainty. She added that consistent planning supports long-term global development cooperation and confidence among nations.

As the event concluded, experts agreed that future growth depends on collaboration and foresight. Through dialogue, strategic planning, and mutual understanding, global development cooperation can lay the groundwork for a fairer, more resilient international order.
