Green Development in China Highlighted During Li Qiang’s Tour

Date:

Green development took center stage during Premier Li Qiang’s recent inspection tour in northwest China. He stressed the need to balance rapid growth with ecological protection while encouraging innovation-driven industries.

Li, also a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, visited Gansu and Qinghai provinces from Monday to Tuesday. His tour showcased both technological advancement and ecological priorities for the country.

In Lanzhou, Gansu Province, Li inspected a high-tech enterprise and an industrial park. He urged enterprises and research institutes to raise investment in R&D. He highlighted that green development requires strong innovation and talent training to remain competitive internationally.

During his visit to the Yellow River in Lanzhou, Li reviewed ecological restoration efforts. He praised achievements but called for integrated strategies across mountains, rivers, forests, farmland, grassland, and deserts. According to Li, green development must always guide such protection work.

In Xining, Qinghai Province, Li evaluated projects focused on clean energy and computing integration. He noted that Qinghai has advantages in solar and hydropower, along with data processing. He urged the province to pursue green development by combining energy resources with new digital industries.

At a food enterprise, the premier encouraged firms to expand into sustainable agriculture and animal husbandry. He explained that modern practices can raise efficiency, increase farmer incomes, and strengthen rural employment. He linked this progress directly to the goals of green development.

Li also acknowledged economic and social achievements in Gansu and Qinghai. Yet, he called for reforms to align local growth with national strategies. He urged faster industrial upgrades while ensuring industries respect ecological limits and prioritize green development.

Experts say northwest China faces pressure to expand economically without harming fragile ecosystems. They argue that innovation in clean energy and sustainable agriculture will be crucial. Balanced governance is essential if green development is to succeed in the long term.

Looking ahead, Li’s visit underscored Beijing’s ongoing focus on blending modernization with ecological responsibility. As western regions expand their role in the economy, sustainable growth will continue to serve as a central pillar of China’s national strategy.
