Green Power Goal: Foxconn Surpasses Target Ahead of Schedule

Date:

Taiwan-based Foxconn has exceeded its green power goal six years ahead of schedule. The company reported that over two-thirds of its electricity came from renewable sources in 2024. This achievement surpasses the original target of 50% by 2030, marking a major step in the company’s sustainability journey.

According to Foxconn’s 2024 sustainability report, green power accounted for 67.38% of total electricity consumption. Furthermore, the company reaffirmed plans to run all its global facilities on 100% renewable energy by 2040. In addition, Foxconn aims to reach net zero emissions across its entire value chain by 2050.

To meet these objectives, the company expanded renewable energy procurement through long-term agreements. At the same time, it developed self-generation projects. Last year, Foxconn purchased 1,396.82 GWh of renewable electricity. In addition, it obtained 4,996.35 GWh through trading supported by green certificates.

Installed renewable energy capacity also grew significantly, reaching 332.90 MW in 2024. This represents a 2.17% increase compared with 2023. Overall, green power consumption totaled 6,728.96 GWh. Consequently, this accounted for 41.81% of total electricity usage across Foxconn’s global operations.

Rooftop solar projects remain central to Foxconn’s self-supply strategy. Moreover, the company is currently constructing major solar installations in China, India, and Vietnam. These initiatives include both rooftop and ground-mounted systems, achieved through construction and strategic acquisitions.

Foxconn also encouraged suppliers to take action on emissions. Last year, 200 suppliers completed carbon inventories, reducing 1.02 million metric tons of CO2e. Meanwhile, 36 suppliers committed to renewable energy initiatives, contributing about 169 million kWh of electricity.

Looking ahead, Foxconn plans to have 54 suppliers fully running on renewable energy by the end of 2025. The company intends to increase that number to over 150 by 2030 and surpass 300 by 2050. These efforts demonstrate Foxconn’s ongoing commitment to sustainability and its green power goal.

By achieving these milestones ahead of schedule, Foxconn sets a strong example for the electronics industry. Furthermore, it strengthens leadership in renewable energy adoption, inspiring others to accelerate their green power goal efforts.
