The International Convention Center Tainan has become more than just an event venue. In fact, it now serves as a green stage for Taiwan, driving sustainability, clean energy, and global connections. Moreover, it represents a new model for how spaces can support a low-carbon future.
The center’s mission extends beyond hosting events. Its leadership believes this space must support industry, inspire talent, and link Taiwan to the world. According to the chair, “We are building a sustainable platform that connects talent, industry, and the global community.”
To begin with, the center relies on smart infrastructure. It offers over 35,000 square meters of open space, including a large column-free exhibition hall. Most notably, it boasts Taiwan’s largest rooftop solar array for any convention center. Consequently, this solar system produces enough electricity each year to power more than 1,300 households.
Previously, power bills soared to hundreds of thousands each month, especially during periods of high demand. In response, the team implemented a central energy management system. They also introduced air-conditioning zones and energy-saving algorithms. As a result, electricity usage dropped by more than 35%.
Despite these efforts, rising energy prices kept costs high. The chair explained, “Even though we used less electricity than before, our bills still increased.” Thus, the financial savings did not fully meet expectations.
Beyond upgrading hardware, the center improved its operations. It achieved international certifications for energy efficiency and sustainable event management. These accomplishments reflect a serious, long-term commitment to environmental stewardship.
However, the leadership emphasizes that technology alone isn’t enough. They see culture as the biggest challenge. Therefore, they aim to help industries transition toward net-zero emissions. At the same time, they seek to attract the next generation of professionals passionate about sustainability.
In this way, the center acts as a green stage for Taiwan, demonstrating how venues can support national climate goals. Exhibitions here provide more than business opportunities; they offer Taiwan a platform to speak to the world.
Ultimately, the chair believes, “Build the stage well, and the people will come.” As the center continues to grow, it proves that sustainability, innovation, and international engagement can work hand in hand—making it a true green stage for Taiwan.
