With election integrity at the forefront, Hong Kong is preparing for its Legislative Council (LegCo) election scheduled for December 7. Chief Executive John Lee announced that election officers had received 50 nomination forms by Monday, signaling growing participation and public interest.
Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, Lee said the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) government would ensure a fair and transparent election. He emphasized that authorities would take all necessary steps to safeguard election integrity and prevent interference.
Lee explained that the government was strengthening administrative measures to optimize the electoral process and ensure efficiency. He stressed that external forces and anti-China groups had been spreading false information to discredit Hong Kong’s improved electoral system. According to him, these attempts were designed to erode confidence and manipulate public perception.
Furthermore, Lee reiterated that the central government maintains full jurisdiction over Hong Kong under the “One Country, Two Systems” framework. He said the upcoming LegCo election holds major significance for maintaining constitutional order, national security, and good governance. The new council, he noted, will assume office during a pivotal phase of Hong Kong’s political and economic recovery.
To reinforce election integrity, Lee vowed to refute false claims and take strong legal action against any illegal activities aimed at disrupting the vote. He also condemned fabricated “endorsement lists” circulating online that misrepresent the government’s role in the nomination process.
The central authorities have also voiced concern about possible attempts to undermine the election. Their statements underscored the need for vigilance and highlighted the election’s importance to Hong Kong’s long-term stability and growth.
Meanwhile, local officials continue to coordinate security, public awareness, and candidate briefings to guarantee smooth voting procedures. Community groups and observers expect active participation as more candidates finalize their paperwork.
