Hyundai Motor Group announced a partnership with the Singapore government to advance public mobility innovation. Moreover, the agreement will electrify government vehicle fleets and promote sustainable transport. They signed the memorandum during the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit in Gyeongju, South Korea.
Hyundai Motor Company President Sung Kim, Hyundai Motor Group Innovation Center Singapore CEO Park Hyun-sung, and HTX CEO Chan Tsan attended the ceremony. In addition, Singapore’s Senior Minister of State Sim Ann also joined the signing.
Under the deal, Hyundai and Singapore’s Home Team Science and Technology Agency (HTX) will conduct a technology demonstration project through 2028. Specifically, the project will improve fleet efficiency using Hyundai’s multi-purpose modular electrification platform. This platform adapts to multiple vehicle types.
Currently, Singapore’s Ministry of Home Affairs imports and modifies different vehicles, which fragments platforms. Therefore, Hyundai plans to integrate these vehicles into a standardized, flexible system. They drew inspiration from Kia’s purpose-built vehicle, which uses the modular architecture.
Furthermore, Hyundai will provide technical support, supply fleet vehicles, and collaborate with HTX and the Hyundai Motor Group Innovation Center Singapore. Consequently, this initiative aligns with Singapore’s EV transition policies and strengthens sustainable transportation infrastructure.
Kim Il-bum, Hyundai Motor Group Executive Vice President, said, “By leveraging our advanced technologies and partnering with the Singapore government, Hyundai Motor Group is laying the groundwork for public mobility innovation. Additionally, we will continue driving global innovation through robotics, hydrogen, and next-generation technologies.”
Since establishing the Hyundai Motor Group Innovation Center Singapore (HMGICS) in 2023, Hyundai has collaborated with local universities, government research institutes, and global partners. These partnerships, in turn, support research in smart factories, EV development, and next-generation mobility solutions.
Moreover, analysts say the project could become a benchmark for public mobility innovation in Asia. By standardizing platforms, Hyundai and Singapore aim to reduce costs, increase operational flexibility, and accelerate EV adoption.
Overall, the partnership highlights Hyundai’s global ambitions to lead EV development while supporting smart, sustainable, and innovative public mobility solutions.
