Mongolia plans to increase coal supply to China, aiming to strengthen bilateral trade and economic ties. This announcement came during “The Fifth China-Mongolia Expo,” held in Hohhot, the capital of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, China. The event provided a platform for deepening cooperation between the two nations.
At the expo, Mongolia’s First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Development, Uchral Nyam-Osor, met with Cai Dafeng, Vice Chairman of China’s National People’s Congress Standing Committee. Both leaders reaffirmed the growing friendship between Mongolia and China. They exchanged ideas on expanding trade and fostering closer economic cooperation.
Uchral Nyam-Osor, who leads the government’s working group on increasing exports, emphasized the launch of new policy reforms. These reforms aim to create a favorable legal environment that encourages trade growth. Moreover, he proposed specific areas for bilateral collaboration. For example, developing cross-border connectivity remains a priority. He highlighted key rail ports such as Shiveekhuren-Sekhee, Bichigt-Zuunkhatavch, and Khangi-Mandal. Including these projects in China’s 15th Five-Year Plan could accelerate progress.
Furthermore, Uchral Nyam-Osor stressed advancing the Zamyn-Uud and Ereen Cooperation Zone. He also encouraged joint efforts in producing export-oriented renewable energy. Supporting private sector initiatives and promoting Mongolian goods abroad are crucial next steps. Additionally, timely issuance of quarantine permits during transit would facilitate smoother trade flows.
On his part, Vice Chairman Cai Dafeng highlighted the importance of aligning China’s 15th Five-Year Plan with Mongolia’s long-term development strategies. He expressed China’s commitment to strengthening strategic and trade ties. Specifically, Cai Dafeng focused on increasing coal imports from Mongolia, ensuring a stable investment environment, and leading cross-border railway development. He noted that the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region serves as a vital gateway between the two countries.
Overall, the meeting underscored efforts to increase coal supply to China while deepening economic relations. Both sides agreed to foster open-market principles and boost trade turnover. This cooperation marks a significant step forward in Mongolia-China economic partnership.
