Date:

A baseball player inspires fans and teammates alike despite being born without fingers on his left hand. Haruto Yokoyama, a third-year student at Gifu Commercial & Business High School, catches attention with his unique playing style and incredible skills. Baseball player inspires many as he defies odds and performs impressively at the National High School Baseball Championship.

Yokoyama wears his glove on his right hand. When the ball comes his way, he tucks the glove under his left armpit. Then, he quickly grabs the ball and throws it with his right hand. This technique allows him to play effectively despite his handicap.

He first stepped onto the famous Hanshin Koshien Stadium field on August 11 during the tournament’s first round. Yokoyama plays with skillful running, batting, and fielding, contributing greatly to his team’s success. Baseball player inspires children who face challenges by showing that obstacles can be overcome.

He began playing baseball in elementary school, motivated by his older brother. Yokoyama’s father advised him to work harder than others to keep up. Taking this advice seriously, Yokoyama dedicated himself to the sport, practicing relentlessly.

At bat, Yokoyama swings left-handed but supports the bat with his left hand. Originally right-handed, he switched batting sides based on his father’s advice. On the field, he removes his glove smoothly to catch and throw quickly. He even widened the glove opening to speed up his throw.

During junior high, he played as both pitcher and outfielder. He worked hard to improve his speed, practicing at home daily. His glove shows marks of intense use, covered in scuffs and sweat stains.

In his final year, Yokoyama hit over .500 in the Gifu Prefecture tournament. His teammates admire his wide fielding range and quick glove transition. His captain praised him for not letting his handicap affect his play.

This year, his team reached the best 16 in the tournament. Yokoyama contributed with key hits, including a game-tying sacrifice fly in the semifinals. Even though they lost, the cheers from the crowd motivated him. He said the support made it all worthwhile. Baseball player inspires others by proving that determination can overcome physical limits. Yokoyama’s story shows courage and passion in Japan’s beloved high school baseball scene.
