Japanese Foreign Minister Takeshi Iwaya called on Iran to engage in negotiations with the United States and European nations to find a peaceful resolution to concerns over its nuclear development program.
In a phone conversation on Monday with Iranian Foreign Minister Seyyed Abbas Araghchi, Iwaya expressed serious concerns over the current situation, stressing that diplomatic engagement was necessary to prevent further escalation.
“It is essential for Iran to take constructive and concrete action,” Iwaya emphasized, urging Tehran to pursue dialogue rather than confrontation.
The United States, under President Donald Trump, has been pressing for negotiations with Iran to prevent the country from acquiring nuclear weapons. However, Iran dismissed Washington’s proposal on March 8, signaling continued tensions between the two nations.
Japan, which has historically maintained diplomatic ties with both the U.S. and Iran, is seeking to play a mediating role in de-escalating tensions and promoting stability in the region.
