Key of SHINee made his Horror Album Comeback on Monday with the release of his third solo album “Hunter.” This new work blends horror and fantasy elements, offering listeners a unique concept that contrasts with summer heat. The album arrives almost one year after his previous mini album “Pleasure Shop” in September.
The 10-track project includes “Strange,” “Picture Frame,” a synth-driven song, and a collaboration with Seulgi. At a press conference in eastern Seoul, the 33-year-old said the Horror Album Comeback theme shaped the record. Originally, the title track had a lighter concept, but Key chose darker imagery instead. He used keywords like “teeth” and “claws” to inspire the horror setting.
He described the title track as a portrayal of inner conflict rather than classic horror monsters. The “hunter” represents another side of the same person, with the song ending as the two selves unite. Key highlighted a lyric that states, “we have become one,” symbolizing acceptance between opposing sides of the self. He also noted that the recent popularity of a similarly titled animated film may help audiences relate to the “hunter” theme.
Reflecting on his creative journey, Key shared that this Horror Album Comeback fulfilled a long-time goal. Previous works like “Pleasure Shop” and “Good & Great” leaned toward softer concepts, while “Gasoline” had a more powerful tone. He wanted to return to a style he truly enjoys, one he had postponed for years.
The album’s production allowed him to experiment while maintaining his trademark artistic detail. Key expressed pride in merging eerie atmosphere with personal storytelling, offering a different angle on horror. Fans can expect a cohesive experience that combines sharp visuals, compelling narratives, and his versatile performance skills.
With “Hunter,” Key strengthens his identity as a solo artist willing to take creative risks. This Horror Album Comeback not only expands his musical range but also delivers a bold concept that resonates with his vision and dedication to his craft.
