LG Display Partnership Strengthens with Mercedes-Benz 2026 GLC Deal

Date:

LG Display partnership will supply a 40-inch next-generation liquid-crystal display for Mercedes-Benz’s 2026 GLC electric SUV. This move reinforces a collaboration that has lasted more than 20 years. The new display will be integrated into the vehicle’s expansive MBUX Hyperscreen infotainment system.

The oxide thin-film transistor, or oxide TFT, LCD offers higher pixel density, a larger visual canvas, and lower power consumption than conventional displays. Mercedes-Benz will introduce oxide TFT technology for the first time in an in-vehicle display in North America and Europe in 2026. Experts say this highlights the growing role of advanced display technology in luxury electric vehicles.

LG Display declined to comment on the deal due to customer confidentiality. The company has worked with Mercedes-Benz since 2004, supplying curved plastic OLED panels for earlier MBUX Hyperscreens. Over time, this LG Display partnership has expanded to include increasingly advanced cockpit solutions.

The collaboration is expected to grow after Mercedes-Benz CEO Ola Kallenius visited Korea and met LG Display CEO Jeong Cheol-dong. Executives from LG’s auto-related units also attended. They discussed integrated solutions for electric vehicles, covering displays, batteries, and autonomous driving sensors through LG’s “One LG” platform.

Kallenius highlighted the importance of the alliance, saying that Mercedes-Benz relies on strategic partnerships to develop next-generation vehicles. He emphasized that collaborating with LG enhances innovation, quality, and sustainability while setting global standards for EV technology.

Analysts note that the LG Display partnership shows how automakers depend on specialized suppliers to differentiate luxury electric vehicles. They add that such collaborations speed development and ensure high-quality user experiences.

Looking ahead, Mercedes-Benz and LG Display plan to expand their technological integration for upcoming EV models. They also aim to explore new joint initiatives in connected vehicle technologies. The partnership signals that advanced display systems will remain a crucial factor for EV competitiveness.

The LG Display partnership illustrates how long-term collaborations help automakers deliver innovative, high-performance, and sustainable vehicles worldwide.
