LG Electronics plans to install its webOS-based content platform in 20 million vehicles by 2030. The company aims to lead the fast-growing software-defined vehicle market in South Korea and worldwide. The announcement came at IAA Mobility in Munich, a major global automotive exhibition. LG shared its vision to expand its Automotive Content Platform, powered by webOS. The system extends the entertainment experience from smart TVs to vehicles, offering seamless integration for users on the move.
Eun Seok-hyun, president of LG’s vehicle solutions division, said the company will strengthen collaboration with content partners. This approach will create a rich and scalable service ecosystem. LG also expects that its platform will help vehicles evolve into “living spaces on wheels” centered on user experience.
LG confirmed partnerships with Microsoft Xbox and Zoom to enhance the in-car experience. Xbox Game Pass subscribers can play popular titles, including “Doom: The Dark Ages” and “Forza Horizon 5,” directly in their vehicles. Meanwhile, the Zoom app will allow in-car video meetings, turning vehicles into mobile workspaces.
The platform also offers access to streaming services such as LG Channels, Netflix, Disney+, YouTube, Tving, Wavve, and Pinkfong Baby Shark Kids World. Free Games by PlayWorks and Haystack News are also available. LG plans to expand offerings with Vasari, Rakuten TV, Joyn, and U-NEXT by the end of the year, further strengthening the in-car ecosystem.
Beyond entertainment, LG integrates safety-focused, in-cabin sensing solutions to protect drivers and passengers. Telematics systems provide large-scale data collection, completing a full software-defined vehicle solution. The company emphasizes that its platform combines safety, connectivity, and entertainment in one package.
