Mongolia’s Prime Minister Zandanshatar Gombojav recently met with Nguyen Huy Tien, the Prosecutor General of Vietnam’s Supreme People’s Procuracy. During their meeting, both leaders emphasized the importance of cooperation in law enforcement between their countries.
Nguyen Huy Tien expressed confidence that Mongolia will continue to provide favorable conditions for the Vietnamese community residing there. Over 800 Vietnamese nationals currently live and work in Mongolia, making this support vital. The Prosecutor General highlighted ongoing collaboration aimed at tackling corruption, abuse of power, and drug-related crimes. This focus shows the shared commitment of both nations toward enhancing public safety and justice.
The officials also discussed a significant agreement signed during President Khurelsukh Ukhnaa’s 2023 visit to Vietnam. This Memorandum of Understanding targets countering transnational drug trafficking and marks a key step forward in cooperation in law enforcement between the two countries. It lays a solid foundation for joint actions against organized crime.
In addition to reviewing past agreements, the prosecution authorities from Mongolia and Vietnam finalized a Cooperation Program for 2026-2027. This program will guide their collaborative efforts over the next two years, strengthening ties and ensuring effective communication between their law enforcement agencies.
Prime Minister Zandanshatar underscored Mongolia’s commitment to expanding cooperation in law enforcement. He expressed a desire to develop new initiatives and modern approaches to tackle challenges effectively. Both countries aim to build on existing relationships by introducing innovative forms of partnership in this field.
Travel between Mongolia and Vietnam has increased notably since March 2024, when an intergovernmental visa exemption agreement took effect. This agreement covers diplomatic, official, special, and ordinary passport holders. In the first five months of 2025, Mongolian visits to Vietnam rose by 64 percent, reaching 20,000 travelers compared to the same period last year. Such growth highlights growing people-to-people ties alongside official cooperation.
Overall, this meeting reaffirms Mongolia and Vietnam’s dedication to deepening cooperation in law enforcement and enhancing the welfare of their citizens. Both nations look forward to advancing this partnership through meaningful programs and mutual support.
