Chairman of the State Great Khural, Amarbayasgalan Dashzegve, met with Austrian President Alexander Van der Bellen during his official State Visit to Mongolia. Parliamentary ties between Mongolia and Austria took priority in the high-level discussions.
This visit marks the first time an Austrian Head of State has traveled to Mongolia since the two nations began diplomatic relations. Therefore, both leaders highlighted the symbolic and practical importance of this milestone. Moreover, they expressed hope that it would lead to deeper and more structured cooperation.
Chairman Amarbayasgalan highlighted the strong foundation of shared democratic values. For example, he referred to human rights, freedom, and the rule of law. Additionally, he thanked Austria for supporting Mongolia’s efforts in building democracy, a stable legal system, and a market economy.
Furthermore, Amarbayasgalan proposed expanding cooperation between the legislative branches. He emphasized that such efforts are vital to turning political goodwill into real progress. Thus, he pledged that the State Great Khural would back any initiatives that bring the two parliaments closer together.
Parliamentary ties between Mongolia and Austria already include the formation of Parliamentary Friendship Groups. In the State Great Khural, MP Batsumberel Natsagdorj leads the Mongolia-Austria group. MPs Batbaatar Bat and Bolormaa Khukhkhuu serve as deputy chairs. Likewise, Austria’s Parliament has created a similar group to promote dialogue and joint efforts.
In addition, Chairman Amarbayasgalan stressed the need for transparent, efficient, and inclusive legal systems. These systems, he argued, must both protect individual rights and address social demands. Hence, he emphasized that a shared commitment to democratic governance could anchor this cooperation.
As a next step, he recommended increased interaction between legislators. This includes regular exchanges, collaborative research, and joint legislative projects. Consequently, both sides could share solutions and innovate together.
At the same time, he encouraged translating ideas into concrete actions. For instance, legal reforms could support economic growth and social development. Importantly, both nations agreed to keep moving forward with such initiatives.
Ultimately, parliamentary ties between Mongolia and Austria will shape the future of their relationship. With mutual trust, shared values, and ongoing collaboration, they can build a partnership that benefits both peoples.
