President Khurelsukh Ukhnaa of Mongolia met with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing. The leaders held extensive discussions on deepening their bilateral relations. From the start, President Xi expressed gratitude to Khurelsukh for attending the SCO Summit and the 80th-anniversary events marking China’s victory in World War II. In response, President Khurelsukh highlighted Mongolia’s contributions to liberating Northeast China alongside the Soviet Army.
The two presidents emphasized that the Mongolia-China strategic partnership has grown across all sectors. They agreed that political trust and mutual understanding have reached unprecedented levels. Moreover, both leaders explored ways to expand trade, improve connectivity, and boost cooperation in agriculture, renewable energy, and light industry. They reached a consensus on numerous initiatives aimed at strengthening bilateral relations.
To reach their goal of USD 20 billion in bilateral trade, Mongolia proposed increasing mining exports. Additionally, it suggested enhancing port connections at Shiveekhuren-Sekhee, Chichigt-Zuunkhatavch, and Khangi-Mandal. Both leaders also discussed joint implementation of renewable energy projects. President Xi praised Mongolia’s support for China’s initiatives and noted the success of projects such as the Gashuunsukhait-Gantsmod Port Railway, the Erdeneburen Hydropower Plant, and the Presidential Sports Complex.
Furthermore, both sides agreed to co-host the 17th Conference of the Parties (COP17) of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) in Ulaanbaatar in 2026. This cooperation highlights the Mongolia-China strategic partnership in environmental and international initiatives.
In addition, the two nations signed several cooperation agreements. These include protocols on honey export control, technical cooperation in animal and plant quarantine, and standards and metrology cooperation. Media collaboration between MONTSAME and China Media Group was also formalized.
In conclusion, the meeting between President Khurelsukh and President Xi reinforced the Mongolia-China strategic partnership. Both countries demonstrated commitment to trade growth, infrastructure development, renewable energy, and multilateral collaboration. With these agreements, the partnership is expected to flourish further in the coming years.
