Mongolia climate action took center stage at COP30 as Minister Batbaatar presented key environmental initiatives. Consequently, the announcement highlighted the country’s commitment to tackling climate change, biodiversity loss, and land degradation.
The high-level session, “From Talk to Action: Making COP30 a Turning Point for Synergistic Climate-Nature Action,” occurred on November 17, 2025, at the German Pavilion in Belem, Brazil. During the event, Minister Batbaatar outlined Mongolia’s policy priorities and plans for cohesive climate-nature solutions.
Mongolia confirmed it will propose three major initiatives at COP17, which it will host in Ulaanbaatar in 2026. These initiatives aim to strengthen the link between land management, climate resilience, and biodiversity protection.
The first initiative, Pastureland Leadership, focuses on sustainable grazing and ecosystem restoration to boost productivity and ecological health. Meanwhile, Integrated Water-Land Management will improve water efficiency and land use planning. Finally, Nature-Based Infrastructure Solutions promotes environmentally friendly infrastructure to reduce climate risks and protect biodiversity.
Minister Batbaatar said these measures will scale integrated landscape restoration solutions globally. He added that Mongolia seeks to show how policy can harmonize climate action, resource management, and biodiversity preservation.
Experts said Mongolia climate action could serve as a model for nations facing desertification and land degradation. Moreover, they stressed integrating multiple environmental sectors into coherent policies. Additionally, international cooperation will be essential for large-scale implementation.
The COP30 session allowed Mongolia to engage global partners, share lessons, and encourage joint projects. Officials noted COP17 will formalize these initiatives and attract international support.
Looking ahead, Mongolia plans to monitor initiative impacts and report progress at future UN environmental conferences. Observers said the proactive approach shows growing recognition of climate, land, and biodiversity links.
