Green Conference Readiness Advances Ahead of COP17 in Ulaanbaatar

Date:

Mongolia advanced its green conference readiness as Ulaanbaatar accelerated key preparations for hosting COP17 in 2026. Officials said the progress demonstrates Mongolia’s intention to deliver an effective and environmentally responsible global meeting.

City authorities expanded green areas inside the National Garden Park, which will anchor several COP17 activities. Workers planted more than 4,500 trees and shrubs across nine species, along with wide grass sections. Project staff also joined residents to remove waste from the park’s eastern sector, improving its condition for future visitors.

Preparations continued on infrastructure essential to green conference readiness and overall conference logistics. The Capital City Governor’s Office confirmed the full installation of fiber-optic communication lines supporting digital operations. Water supply and sewerage works reached 88 percent completion as teams focused on remaining connections. Electrical supply installations and new parking facilities reached 45 percent completion and will grow steadily in coming months.

A UN Convention to Combat Desertification planning team visited Ulaanbaatar to review ongoing work. The team concluded the temporary conference facilities could be completed by July 2026 if current schedules hold. Their assessment reassured local agencies but encouraged stronger coordination to avoid seasonal delays and technical bottlenecks.

Officials emphasized that COP17 offers Mongolia an opportunity to strengthen global engagement while improving domestic environmental capacity. They highlighted that park expansion, public involvement and steady construction show the country’s long-term commitment to international cooperation. They also said these efforts support broader national goals involving land restoration and climate resilience.

Stakeholders noted that hosting the conference helps raise public awareness of environmental pressures affecting Mongolia. They argued that green conference readiness reinforces community participation and encourages long-term planning across multiple sectors. They also said the approach strengthens Mongolia’s reputation as a constructive partner in global environmental discussions.

Authorities plan to refine logistics throughout 2025 and strengthen sustainability measures across remaining construction zones. They intend to expand public outreach programs to build momentum as COP17 approaches. Through these combined measures, Ulaanbaatar aims to complete all requirements on time and present a capable and environmentally focused host city demonstrating strong green conference readiness.
