Mongolia FAO Cooperation strengthened during President Khurelsukh Ukhnaa’s state visit to Italy, highlighting sustainable agriculture priorities. The president met United Nations FAO Director-General Dr. Qu Dongyu to discuss ongoing projects, future collaboration, and strategies for food security.
President Khurelsukh praised the FAO’s long-term contributions to Mongolia’s agricultural sector. He also wrote in the FAO’s Book of Honorable Guests, congratulating the organization on its 80th anniversary. He emphasized the FAO’s role in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.
The meeting focused on rangeland management, preserving water and land resources, and boosting stable food production while mitigating climate change. Both parties agreed to implement projects under the International Year of Rangelands and Pastoralists framework.
Mongolia has been an FAO member since 1973. The FAO Representative Office opened in Ulaanbaatar in 2009. The organization promotes sustainable agriculture, improves nutrition, ensures food safety, and enhances rural living conditions.
FAO programs involve research institutions, civil society, and herder communities to protect biodiversity and the environment. These initiatives also support Mongolia’s nomadic culture and extensive pastoralism practices.
Experts say Mongolia FAO Cooperation strengthens climate adaptation measures and resilient food systems. Collaboration provides technical expertise, policy guidance, and funding for rural development projects.
President Khurelsukh stressed that Mongolia will continue close cooperation with the FAO to advance agriculture and food security. The visit aims to further bilateral collaboration, knowledge exchange, and progress toward global Sustainable Development Goals.
Mongolia FAO Cooperation remains a key part of the nation’s strategy to improve food production, protect natural resources, and promote a healthier environment for future generations.
