Ulaanbaatar will host the 2025 intergovernmental negotiations on Mongolia Germany Cooperation on October 30. The talks aim to review ongoing projects, explore new initiatives, and set a roadmap for future joint efforts. They underline both countries’ commitment to stronger bilateral ties.
Preparatory discussions occurred on October 27 between senior officials from Mongolia and Germany. During the meetings, the Mongolian delegation shared updates on private sector growth, investment climate improvements, and public-private partnerships. Meanwhile, the German team reviewed progress under the current cooperation framework and outlined future collaboration plans.
Officials highlighted key areas for discussion, including sustainable economic development, higher education, biodiversity conservation, environmental protection, climate change mitigation, and energy transition. Germany has long served as a leading European partner for Mongolia, providing concessional loans, technical assistance, and development aid.
In 2023, Germany pledged EUR 78 million in bilateral assistance. Additionally, through the “Debt2Health” initiative with the Global Fund, Mongolia converted up to EUR 29 million in debt payments into grants. These funds supported health sector projects targeting infectious diseases and improved healthcare quality nationwide.
Mongolia Germany Cooperation has a strong foundation. Germany was the first European country to establish a strategic partnership with Mongolia. Both nations aim to deepen ties further by improving the economic and investment environment. They also plan to boost trade and investment flows.
The negotiations occur every two years. They will be co-chaired by Batkhuu Idesh, State Secretary of Mongolia’s Ministry of Economy and Development, and Yiannis Neophytou, Head of Division at the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development. Experts predict the talks could unlock additional funding, technical support, and collaborative projects across multiple sectors.
Observers note that Mongolia Germany Cooperation reflects a trend of international collaboration to advance sustainable development goals. Both countries intend to convert strategic plans into tangible outcomes that benefit society, protect the environment, and strengthen regional economic integration.
