Mongolia Italy Relations Strengthened During State Visit

The Mongolia Italy relations took center stage as President Khurelsukh Ukhnaa and First Lady Bolortsetseg Luvsandorj arrived in Rome. They are on a State Visit from December 1 to 3, 2025, at the invitation of Italian President Sergio Mattarella. The visit celebrates 55 years of diplomatic ties between the two nations.

President Khurelsukh received a ceremonial welcome at Fiumicino International Airport. Italian officials included Nicola Carè, Head of the Italy-Mongolia Parliamentary Group, and Bruno Pasquino, Head of Diplomatic Protocol. Mongolian representatives included Ambassador Narantungalag Tserendorj to Italy and Ambassador Gerelmaa Davaansuren to the Holy See. The reception demonstrated the strong diplomatic connection between the two countries.

The visit focuses on strengthening Mongolia Italy relations in politics, economics, and culture. Leaders plan to discuss trade, explore investment opportunities, and boost collaboration in education, technology, and tourism. They also aim to enhance people-to-people ties and develop new joint initiatives.

Italy has a population of 59 million and a GDP of USD 2.2 trillion. Services account for 65% of the economy, industry 23%, and agriculture 2%. Italy exports machinery, transport vehicles, textiles, and pharmaceuticals worth EUR 623 billion. Imports include petroleum, natural gas, vehicles, and food products totaling EUR 568 billion. Foreign direct investment stands at EUR 452 million. Italy also holds major coal, zinc, marble, and natural gas reserves.

Italy is known for historic cultural figures admired in Mongolia, including Marco Polo, Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo, Galileo Galilei, and Luciano Pavarotti. Cultural and educational exchanges remain key pillars of Mongolia Italy relations.

Officials expect the State Visit to boost bilateral trade, investment, and technical collaboration. Leaders plan joint programs in sustainable development, tourism, and heritage preservation. Mongolia Italy relations are set to grow further, reflecting a long-term strategic partnership and shared global interests.
