Mongolia and Saudi Arabia strengthened bilateral cooperation during the first Political Consultation between their foreign ministries in Riyadh on October 20, 2025.
The meeting highlighted the growing momentum in bilateral cooperation and explored ways to deepen partnerships across economic, social, and diplomatic spheres. Both sides emphasized the importance of strengthening ties through tangible initiatives in key sectors.
Officials discussed collaboration in food security, agriculture, mining, infrastructure, education, digital economy, and tourism. They also reaffirmed their commitment to joint work with the United Nations and other international organizations.
The consultation follows a 2023 Memorandum of Understanding signed during Foreign Minister Battsetseg Batmunkh’s official visit to Saudi Arabia. Agreements finalized then included Air Transport Services and short-term visa exemptions for diplomatic and official passport holders.
Mongolia’s delegation was led by Anand Amgalan, Director of the Department of the Americas, the Middle East and Oceania at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Saudi Arabia was represented by Nassar bin Awad bin Al-Ghanum, Director of the General Department of Asian Countries.
The officials reviewed political, economic, and social developments in both countries to identify areas for further cooperation. They highlighted the importance of a legal framework to support bilateral cooperation effectively.
Experts note that enhanced bilateral cooperation could stimulate trade, investment, and knowledge exchange between Mongolia and Saudi Arabia. Both countries have expressed interest in joint ventures, particularly in agriculture and infrastructure development.
Additionally, strengthening bilateral cooperation aligns with broader regional strategies for economic growth and international collaboration. Observers believe that these efforts could position both countries as more active players in regional economic forums.
The meeting concluded with plans for follow-up discussions and working groups to implement agreed initiatives. Both parties expressed satisfaction with the progress made and confirmed the mutual desire to expand bilateral cooperation further.
Through this consultation, Mongolia and Saudi Arabia aim to build a sustainable partnership. The enhanced bilateral cooperation will likely provide long-term benefits for both countries’ economies and diplomatic engagements.
