Mongolia, UN Strengthen Ties for Sustainable Growth

President Khurelsukh Ukhnaa welcomed United Nations Resident Coordinator Jaap van Hierden during an official meeting in Ulaanbaatar. The visit marked a significant moment in Mongolia-UN cooperation for sustainable growth.

Right at the beginning, President Khurelsukh congratulated Mr. van Hierden on his new role. He expressed confidence in the Resident Coordinator’s commitment to building stronger UN-Mongolia ties. Furthermore, the President praised the United Nations for consistently supporting Mongolia’s economic and social development. He also reaffirmed Mongolia’s deep commitment to global collaboration through the UN.

Meanwhile, Mr. van Hierden expressed admiration for Mongolia’s peaceful society, rich cultural heritage, and natural landscapes. He called Mongolia one of the best countries to serve in as a UN official. More importantly, he applauded Mongolia’s leadership in peacekeeping and gender equality.

In addition, the Resident Coordinator praised Mongolia’s environmental initiatives. He highlighted the country’s climate leadership on the global stage. He also congratulated Mongolia for securing the honor of hosting the 17th Session of the Conference of the Parties to the UNCCD in 2026.

During the meeting, President Khurelsukh emphasized the importance of aligning national goals with the global SDGs. Both sides agreed to explore every opportunity to align development efforts. They also pledged to work together at all levels to ensure real progress.

Mr. van Hierden voiced strong support for the President’s key national initiatives. These include the “Billions of Trees” campaign, the “White Gold” livestock program, and the “Healthy Mongol” health movement. All these programs aim to improve Mongolia’s environment, economy, and public well-being.

Moreover, both leaders discussed ways to integrate Mongolia’s medium and long-term policies with the UN’s global agenda. They promised to maintain close collaboration and support each other’s visions.

Clearly, Mongolia-UN cooperation for sustainable growth remains a top priority for both sides. With shared goals and mutual respect, their partnership continues to evolve and expand.

As the meeting concluded, President Khurelsukh expressed optimism for the future. Mr. van Hierden echoed that optimism. Together, they committed to deepening Mongolia-UN cooperation for sustainable growth in the years ahead.
